"Dr. McCoy commented that he was a doctor, and not of some other profession unrelated to medicine"

If Edward Gorey wrote "The Trouble With Tribbles"

Discussion question: which is better, this or "Trials and Tribble-ations"?

That discussion question hardly merits discussion, does it? This is better. No question about it.

This is certainly charming, but I have to give the nod to Trials and Tribble-ations. It was a successful, real episode, which involved them revisiting an episode that they, by all rights, should have never touched. Merely avoiding disaster was fairly remarkable, the fact that it was one of the funniest episodes of any of the modern (often humor challenged) Trek shows is gravy.
